Just announced, cue the outrage:
Seattle Mariners right fielder Ichiro Suzuki won his 10th straight Gold Glove Award on Tuesday, headlining an AL team with several repeat winners.
With his 10th Gold Glove, Ichiro ties the record shared by Ken Griffey Jr. and Hall of Famer Al Kaline.
The Yankees’ Derek Jeter won his fifth Gold Glove at shortstop while teammate Mark Teixeira was rewarded with his second straight first base award and fourth overall.
Minnesota Twins catcher Joe Mauer won his third straight award. Pitcher Mark Buehrle of the Chicago White Sox and Tampa Bay Rays third baseman Evan Longoria both won their second straight Gold Gloves.
First-time winners include Yankees second baseman Robinson Cano, Rays left fielder Carl Crawford and Mariners center fielder Franklin Gutierrez.
Let the freakout begin, as I jokingly noted on Twitter 15 minutes before the announcement:
Not that he is going to get it, but I would love to see the ratings of the Twitterfreakout if Jeter won another GoldGlove
And just before the announcement:
#JeterFor2010GoldGlove. Who’s with me!?
