So long, Juan Miranda

Juan Miranda was going to be forever roadblocked by Mark Teixeira so he was dealt today to the Arizona Diamondbacks for minor league pitcher Scott Allen. D’Backs new GM Kevin Towers just spent the last year in the Yanks organization so he was likely pretty aware of the team’s feelings towards Miranda. Allen seems like a decent return for Miranda, however:

Allen, 19, went 4-4 with a 4.73 ERA in 16 starts with Single-A South Bend in 2010, striking out 79 batters in 78.0 innings pitched with just 22 walks. He made his professional debut with short-season Single-A Missoula in 2009, going 1-0 with a 0.51 ERA in 12 relief appearances (17.2IP, 1ER). Allen was originally selected by the Diamondbacks in the 11th round of the 2009 First-Year Player Draft from Lyman High School (Fla.).

Tweets Joe P. from RAB: “Scott Allen: 2.76 FIP as an 18/19 year old in A ball. Not bad of a return at all.” Can’t disagree with that.

From MLBTR:

The Diamondbacks chose Allen, 19, in the 11th round of the 2009 draft. In 95 2/3 innings over two seasons, he has a 3.95 ERA with 8.9 K/9 and 2.7 BB/9. He won’t figure into the Yankees’ big league plans for a while, but Miranda could compete for Arizona’s first base job in 2011.
